Mesa wins just two of seven matches on NJCAA men's tennis first day

Tyler, Texas – Mesa won just two of seven matches on the first day of play at the NJCAA Division I Men's Championship Monday.

Mesa is currently tied for 13th place with four points.

" We started out great today with big wins by Beto Carlon and Arturo Socias Salvo in singles," said head coach Feroz Rast. "But we lost momentum and dropped the next two singles matches.

"Going into the three doubles matches we felt very confident but couldn't close them out.  Our number 1 and 2 doubles both lost in 3 sets to their opponents.  Doubles 3 lost in a close 2 sets to their opponents.

"We look to rebound tomorrow. Growth mindset. We had close matches but we needed to do better to finish out those matches.  We will learn and come out stronger tomorrow."

Play continues Tuesday with second round matches for the winners and consolation matches for those that lost.
