Record-setting Vakasioula leads (#7) women's golf to latest victory

Queen Creek, AZ - It was a record weekend for Alyzzah Vakasioula at the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational Saturday and Sunday.

The Mesa sophomore tore apart the MCC and ACCAC record books with a 66-67—133, which was 11-under par, new records in both categories winning the event at the Las Colinas G.C.

That helped MCC, which along with Vakasioula is ranked seventh in the nation, to another easy win, the team's 14th consecutive ACCAC tournament victory. For Vakasioula, it was her 13th straight.

The T-Birds won with a 36-hole total of 291-301—592. Finishing second was Pima at 321-333—654. The 291 first round was the second lowest in school history.

MCC took four of the top eight spots individually. Vivianna Holguin placed fourth with a 78-72—150. Abby Schmidt was sixth, carding a 72-80—152 and Jolie Guyette took eighth place  with a 75-82—157.

Mesa has one more regular season event. The T-Birds will play in the Paradise Valley Invitational April 11-12 at the Wildfire G.C. in Scottsdale, AZ.
