Vakasioula fires school-record 66 to lead women's golf to another win

Alyzzah Vakasioula fired a school record 66 to help lead the Mesa women's golf team to another victory, this time at the South Mountain Invitational. The event was held Saturday and Sunday.

The 66 is the lowest score in MCC women's golf history and the five-under-par mark over the par 71 Apache Creek G.C. ties the record she set last week with a 67 at the par 72 Dobson Ranch G.C. It was also her tenth consecutive regular season tournament win.

Not to be lost in the excitement, Vivian Holguin produced her lowest-ever competitive round, a 75, to help Mesa to a 311-304—673. South Mountain was third at 347-356—703.

Vakasioula won medal honors by 13 strokes with a 74-66—140. Holguin placed fourth at 80-75—155 and Abby Schmidt was tied for sixth posting a 75-82—157.

Up next for the MCC women is the Pima Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at the Del Urich G.C. in Tucson.
