(#12) men's tennis captures eighth straight ACCAC crown
Paradise Valley, AZ – The 12th-ranked Mesa men's tennis team captured its eighth consecutive ACCAC championship with a thrilling, 5-4, win over Paradise Valley Wednesday.
MCC has won every conference title that has been contested since 2014, all with unbeaten records. There was no conference schedule in 2020 due to COVID-19.
The T-Birds closed their regular season with a 7-5 overall record, including a 6-0 conference mark. All five of the losses came against four-year schools.
"What a way to finish the regular season. So proud of both teams," exclaimed head coach Feroz Rast. "The men were in a big fight. We came in with some of our guys battling injuries and really needed our depth to play hard. We proved it in a big way.
"First fighting in doubles and winning No. 1 and No. 3 to go into singles. In singles all the matches were so close. We had four out of six matches go into a tie-breaker.
"It was a gutsy win and one that we earned with determination. Now we got a short turnaround to get everyone fully healthy going into region tournament."
That regional will be held April 12-13 at the Paseo Tennis Center in Glendale, AZ.
