Hoping for regional titles, men's and women's tennis teams open spring seasons Thursday

Spring tennis is about to begin and head men's and women's coach Feroz Rast can't wait. He won't have long to wait as the season gets underway Thursday against Imperial Valley (Calif.) at 4:30 on the MCC courts.

"We are very excited for the 2022 spring season," says Rast. We have a strong returning class on the men's side led by Austreberto Carlon, Duncan Mulenga and Cameron Khan. They are coming off great freshman seasons and helped us finish in the top top 12 at the national tournament."

But Rast also has a strong group of new players. According to him, "We have also added an amazing freshman class led by Harry Browning from New Zealand and Arturo Salvo from Spain. We are loostng to compete for another region title and a top ten finish at the national tournament."

The MCC men have been among the top 10 in five of the last six years and have won seven straight Region I titles.

Meanwhile, the T-Bird women are looking to get back to the level that saw them win three regional titles in four years. They placed third last spring.

"On the women's side, we are led by returning captain Kendra Farrell who looks to finish off her sophomore year with a strong performance and lead us to a region title," notes Rast. "We look to have strong contributions from our many newcomers. Freshmen Brianna Clayton, Brenna Wallen, Alethea LaCroix and Kylie Williams had a strong fall season and look to make an impact this spring.

The regional championships for both teams will take place April 19-20 at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, AZ.
