No. 11 men's soccer kicks off seasons against No. 4 Phoenix College tonight

The Mesa Community College Men's Soccer team kicks off their 2023 campaign tonight at home against No. 4 Phoenix College.

The Thunderbirds are coming off their best season in program history which saw them play in the 2022 NJCAA DII Men's Soccer Championship where they even beat to the eventual winner of the tournament Prairie State.

For head coach Brian Ronan and company, playing with effort will play a key role in whether they're able to book another ticket to the national tournament.

"The level you have to play at in order to be successful in our league is extremely high all the time, you'd don't just get to sit back and rely on talent alone, extreme effort is necessary," said Ronan.

The ACCAC like it has been for the past few seasons is stacked with talent and that reflects in the national rankings as Mesa ranks No. 11, Pima ranks No. 8, and Phoenix College sits at No. 4 and that is just the DII teams as Arizona Western ranks No. 2 in the country when it comes to DI.

In the ACCAC there is no game where a team can chalk up a victory without putting the effort in and the Thunderbirds know that.

"There are no easy games or wins, every team in the conference is going to make you work for a victory," said Ronan.

The first two games the Thunderbirds will be tested as they match up with Phoenix and Scottsdale. In their both matches last year PC beat MCC by a combined score of 11-1, and against Scottsdale, though MCC did come away with victories they were hard fought as they won both games by just one goal.

The game tonight will begin at 8:00 P.M. If you're not able to make the game in person but want to keep up with all the action, click here to watch the game live via T-Birds Sports Live.
