The men's basketball team got back on track Wednesday night as they took down Central Arizona 67-70. They have already tied their win total from last season.

The T-Birds bounced back from their first loss of the season against the Vaqueros as they had a back and forth contest in the first half that saw Mesa take a 35-30 lead into halftime. Nicholas Riley dominated the first half as he led all scorers with 15.

In the second half foul trouble plagued the Thunderbirds early as they sent Central Arizona to the line early in the half for one-and-one free throws. Mesa controlled most of the second half building a lead as high as 13 at one point.

As the clock ran down the Vaqueros made a run that would cut the lead to just one in the final seconds. Evan Clayton was sent to the free throw line and he sunk two clutch free throws to put Mesa up three. A last second half court heave from CAC just bounced off the rim as the Thunderbirds improved their overall record to 5-1 and their conference record to 1-1.

Clayton led Mesa in scoring with 19, followed by Riley who finished with 17. MCC will play host to Chandler-Gilbert Saturday afternoon.
