About SAAC

The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C) at Mesa Community College serves as a means of communication between teams, administration and the community surrounding M.C.C. The council is composed of student-athletes from each sport, who serve to represent the interests, opinions, and concerns of the Mesa Community College student-athletes. The S.A.A.C provides an opportunity to enhance leadership abilities and make an impact on the individual teams, within the department of athletics, in the Mesa community, and at the Mesa Community College as a whole. 

Mission Statement

The role of the Mesa Community College student-athletic advisory committee is to prepare student-athletes for lifelong learning and global citizenship through the promotion of academic, athletic, professional, and personal growth.

Article I. Name of Organization

Proposed January 2023. Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) MCC S.A.A.C

Article II. What is the reason that your S.A.A.C was created?

The MCC SAAC was established to review and offer student-athlete input on the campus, NJCAA activities, and proposed legislation that affected student-athlete welfare.

Article III. Membership 

Section I Size

One representative from each team, executive council members do count towards team totals. 

Section II Selection Process

A student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The selection process will be overseen by coaching staff and the athletic administration with the means of providing the best advocates for the council. 

Selection III Duties of members

  • The student-athlete representatives will be required to participate in weekly (eventually monthly) meetings with attendance and participation. Attendance will be taken and recorded each meeting and reported directly to the coaching staff and athletic director.

  • Each member is expected to participate in all meetings, service projects, as well as any other initiatives conducted by the MCC SAAC. 

  • It is the responsibility of the MCC SAAC member to share information from the proceedings with their institutional SAAC and administration and solicit feedback from student-athletes from their member institution for discussion or inclusion on the agenda. 

Selection IV Terms of Service

The MCC SAACs term will be automatically renewed in the following year unless discussed otherwise with the coaching staff and/or the athletic administration.

Article IV. Executive Committee

Section I Size/Titles/Duties  

    • President– plans and presides over meetings. Works with the athletics administrator who acts as the S.A.A.C liaison

    • Vice President – assists in meeting planning and presides over meetings in the absence of the chair(s).

    • Secretary – records meetings and distributes updates and decisions

    • Student Body Liaison(s) – works with the institution’s student government association.

    • Treasurer – handles the committee budget and finances.

    • Community Service Chair – organizes and leads service events throughout the year.
