Cross country heads to U of A Friday
Mesa, AZ - The T-Birds take flight in just their second meet of the 2019 season this Friday when they travel to Tucson where they will compete in the 9th Annual Dave Murray Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona. The MCC harriers will face stiff competition from several NCAA Division I programs. The MCC men will compete on the U of A 7K course and the Lady T—Birds will navigate their 4K course.
Both of MCC teams will be challenged by the host school (University of Arizona) as well as many others. In addition to the U of A, other teams expected to compete are:
Arizona State University
Grand Canyon University
Northern Arizona University
Pima Community College
Benedictine University
Glendale Community College
The Mesa teams look to shore-up their top five runners and close the time gaps between the number one and number seven runners respectively. Sophomore Flynn Furhmann, led the way in MCC's first meet with an eighth place finish overall at the University of New Mexico Lobo Invitational. He should be joined by a strong contingent of support from Andrew McCumber, Jalen Chee, Geoffrey Grossthal, Bryan Mendez, Joel Wadsworth, and Jonathan Repass.
Similarly, the Lady T-Birds will be trying to tighten the time gaps between their number one and number five runners. Led by freshman Ellis Collins, she is joined by a very nice supporting cast in Maggie Orr, Gabby Wissell, Niji Hunter, Tanaeya Johnson, Elisia Escanuela, and Kaysinee Shirley.
All members of the MCC Cross Country team focused their summer attention and goals on a commitment to excellent preparation/readiness in their training/racing; maintaining quality health; academic excellence, and widespread support of all teammates. As each meet on the 2019 schedule is completed, the results will determine just how close the teams come to realizing each of these areas and the Dave Murray Invitational this Friday is another big step in the process!
