Mesa volleyball opens their season tonight against Arizona Western

The MCC Women's Indoor Volleyball team opens their season tonight at home against Arizona Western College.

The Lady T-Birds are coming off of a 5-13 record (4-11 ACCAC) in their first season under head coach Jordan Herrington. The Lady T-Birds will take on an AZW team that already has four victories under their belt this season.

With this being MCC's first regular season game, Herrington hopes to see just how her team handles the ebbs and flows of ACCAC volleyball.

"I'm looking for the cohesiveness to be maintained. I'm curious to see how this team deals with adversity and the momentum shifts that come along with volleyball," said Herrington.

There are a lot of new faces to the roster for MCC and that can be credited to Herrington and her assistant coach Sara Hansen hitting the recruiting trail hard in their first recruiting class at MCC.

"It's been great, I went out and recruited a lot of the small schools and that's a bit different at Mesa. I reached out to the coaches that I knew had high volleyball IQ and we went out and saw how we can look at all these small town girls, me and Sara recruited our butts off," said Herrington.

Herrington expects a lot from everyone on her team, in particular she is looking for her middle players, Abby Platt, and Annie Hansen to help keep the Lady T-Birds soaring all season long.

"We have two middles that are six foot and up, they're in the gym everyday working hard. Abby Platt has put in a lot of work in the offseason, Annie Hansen who is a setter I expected a lot from her in that role but also from an offensive role too," said Herrington.

Tonight's game against AZW will begin at 7:00 P.M. and will take place in Theo Heap Gymnasium on MCC's Southern and Dobson campus. If you're unable to attend the game but don't want to miss any of the action, click here to watch the game live via T-Birds Sports Live.
