Mesa track & Field soars over the weekend

Mesa Track & Field had a busy weekend as they competed in the Pima Multis & Indoor Invitational as well as the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.

Women's Track & Field:

The Lady T-Birds added another qualifying performance to their already stacked list for nationals as Carmella Baldwin qualified in the 3000m. This is Baldwin's fourth event she has qualified for.

Sara Jacobson set another PR as she continued her already very successful indoor season at the Pima Multis as she took first in the Pentathlon scoring 3393 points, falling just 131 points shy of the MCC school record. Jacobson is currently the No. 1 Pentathlon athlete in the nation.

At the Don Kirby Elite in New Mexico, Anna Brown set a new lifetime PR in the Pole vault as she cleared 3.40m . Madisyn Williams improved on her season best mark as he cleared 3.70m.

SeiOriana Glass improved on her mark in the Weight Throw as she hit 15.29m.

Men's Track & Field:

The T-Birds Men added Cal Schnepf (Mile) and Corbin Pyle (600m) to the growing list of athletes heading to Lubbock, TX to compete at nationals. This is Pyle's fourth event he has qualified in.

At the Pima Multis Myles Larsen came in second place in the Heptathlon and improved his score from last month as he scored 4748 points. Zion Atwood came in fourth in the Heptathlon with 3085 points as he set PRs in the 60m (7.90), Long Jump (5.67m), Shot Put (8.10m), Pole Vault (3.12m), and the 1000m (2:45.44).

In NM Austin John set a PR in the Shot Put as he scored a mark of 14.09m. Interim head coach Daniel Pescador is extremely proud of John as he has worked extremely hard this season.

"He's been competing extremely well, and it has been amazing to see his progression," said Pescador.

The T-Birds have just one more meet before Indoor nationals as they will compete in the NAU Tune Up on Feb. 21.
