Mesa Track & Field sets school and personal records over the weekend

Mesa Track & Field competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Gaucho Invitational over the weekend as they continue to tune up for Regionals.

Bryan Clay Invitational:

Jorge Trujillo set a new school record for the men's 10,000m run as he finished the event in 31:04.96 besting the previous record of 31:07.43 set by Yotuel Garcia in 2023.

Anna Harmon itched her name in the record books as well setting a new record for the women's 10,000m run. Harmon smashed the previous mark of 37:41.40 (held by Hailey Hanna since 2010) as she finished the event in 36:27.76.

Ernest Green was less than a second from setting a new school record in the 800m finishing in 1:49.89 (a PR for Green) just barely missing the mark of 1:49.30 which was set by James Euell back in 1971. 

Not only did Reanna Campbell qualify for nationals in the 400m with a time of 56.19, but she also set a new school record in the event as she beat the previous record of 56.20 set by Zaria Hamilton in 2023.

Javier Garcia punched his ticket for nationals in the 10k event as he finished with a time of 32:12.23.

Gaucho Invitational:

Niklas Hauck (11.26), KeJuan Smith (11.35), and Jonathan Wright (11.43) each set a new PR in the 100m dash.

Valerie Woo set a PR in the 100m hurdles as she finished in 15.27. KeJuan Smith (22.88) and Baraka Nzou (23.56) each earned a new PR in the men's 200m while Lucille Lovelace  hit a new PR in the women's 200m (28.02) and the 400m (1:04.76).

Maleah Tucker had herself a day as she qualified for the discus throw (45.53m) and the hammer throw (48.82) while also setting a new PR in the shot put (11.88m).

Craig Runge (4.52m) and Nathan Jacobson (4.37) each punched their ticket to nationals in the men's pole vault event while Raely Palmer set a PR and qualified for nationals in the women's pole vault (3.42m).

The T-Birds will stick close to the nest as their next events are all at MCC, their next being the Mesa Invitational on Friday followed by NJCAA Region I Multis on April 22-23
