Tuesday February 20, 2024 - 9:30 a.m. | Dylan DeVlieger

Mesa Track & Field competed in their final meet before Indoor Nationals on Friday at the NAU Tune-Up.

The Thunderbirds made a trip up north as they looked to add and improve to their qualifying times for nationals.

Women's Track & Field:

Deshay Turner continues her historic freshman year as she broke her own school record in the 60m event, finishing with a time of 7.54. Turner had just set the record at 7.59 at the Don Kirby Indoor Invitational on Feb. 10. This is the fourth indoor school record Turner has eclipsed this season (three individual, one relay).

Odelia Lemons hit a new PR in the 60m event as she finished in 7.73. Lemons also set a PR in the 60m hurdles as she finished in 9.58.

Carmella Baldwin qualified for nationals in the mile as she finished in 5:12.07. Raely Palmer hit the mark to qualify in the pole vault event as she was successful at 3.25m, also a personal best.

Maliyah Ross and Marisa Hennix both qualified in the long jump and set new personal bests as Ross earned a 5.69m mark, while Hennix was right behind her with 5.68m.

Ross also set a new PR in the 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.36.

SeiOriana Glass was successful in qualifying in the weight throw event as she scored 15.15m, setting a new personal best in the process.

Men's Track & Field:

Ousman Jagne itched his name in the school record books as he finished the 60m event with a 6.69, a PR and good enough to tie him for the school record with Tyson Tippett who set the mark in 2023.

Jalen Bradford and Jhaylin Palmer both earned new personal best marks in the 60m event as Bradford finished in 7.04 and Palmer in 6.91.

Ricardo Torres will make his way to nationals as he qualified in the 60m hurdles event, finishing with a time of 8.15.

Craig Runge hit the mark in the pole vault event booking his ticket to nationals as he was successful at 4.30m.

Austin John set a new PR in the shot put event as he hit for 12.53m.

The T-Birds will get a week's break before they head to Gainesville, FL for NJCAA Indoor Nationals on March 1-2.
