Women's TF finishes 7th at Outdoor Nationals

Hobbs, NM - The Thunderbirds women's track & field team wrapped up the 2023 NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

The lady T-Birds finished the meet in seventh place in the team standings with 37 points. Mesa also finished as the top-ranked ACCAC/Region I school.

Taylor Jacobs finished as the national runner-up in the 800m final with a school-record-breaking performance of 2:11.92.

Kate Brockman earned All-American honors in the 1500m final as she finished in fifth place with a personal-best time of 4:50.58. Ryan Heiliger finished in 10th place with a time of 5:00.56.

K. Brockman doubled back to earn AA honors in the 5000m run with a sixth-place finish.

The 4x400m relay team (Zaria Hamilton, Diane Ondobo, Katherine Lemish, and T. Jacobs) earned AA honors with a sixth-place finish (3:45.97) and broke their school record once again after having broken it the previous day.

Victoria Malalki earned AA honors after finishing in sixth place with a mark of 44.81m.

The 4x100m relay team (K. Lemish, Zana Ryan, Z. Hamilton, and D. Ondobo) ran a season-best time of 46.99 seconds to finish in ninth place, missing eighth place and AA honors by just 0.21 seconds.

K. Lemish just missed out on earning AA honors in the 100m hurdle finals as she finished in ninth place with a PB time of 14.22 seconds, just five one-hundredths of a second off from eighth place.

In the 400m dash finals, Z. Hamilton (56.25) and D. Ondobo (56.87 personal best) finished in 10th and 12th place.

Both K. Lemish (1:03.83 PB) and Mia Sirimarco (1:04.66 PB) competed in the 400m hurdle finals, finishing in 12th and 15th place.

Host school New Mexico JC won the national championship with 130.5 points.

The lady T-Birds finished the meet with eight athletes earning a combined 15 AA honors.
