Women's tennis has three advance at NJCAA nationals on first day

  Tucson, AZ – Mesa won two of its six singles matches, and one of three doubles on the first day of play at the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Tournament being played at the Refkin Tennis Center Saturday.

"Tough first day for us," said head coach Feroz Rast. "We came out with great energy but couldn't close out some big matches.  

  "We had two go to a third set and just couldn't finish the match with a win.  Great job by freshman Brenna Wallen with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win and also Alethea LaCroix who won in dominant fashion 6-0, 6-1. Alethea and Kylie Williams also won in doubles to close out the day.

  "We have three players left in the main draw and the others will be competing in the consolation draw starting on Sunday."

Mesa singles results:

No. 1 - Brianna Clayton lost USC Sumter 6-1, 6-1

No. 2 - Kendra Farrell lost USC Sumter 6-3, 4-6, 6-1

No. 2 - Zari Williams lost to St. Petersburg 6-2, 6-1

No. 4 - Alethea LaCroix won vs 6-0, 6-1

No. 5 - Brenna Wallen won 6-0, 6-0

No. 6 - Kylie Williams lost 6-4, 0-6, 6-4
