Women's tennis downs four-year College of Idaho, 5-4

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa women's tennis team pulled out an exciting victory over a four-year opponent Monday at the MCC Courts. The T-Birds defeated NAIA member College of Idaho, 5-4, with the match going down to the final points.

"Such a gritty win by the ladies," commented head coach Feroz Rast. "We fought so hard.  Playing against an NAIA university is always difficult, but I loved our energy especially in singles.

"We fell behind 1-2 after doubles.  Singles started out tough, but everyone pushed through. We won courts 4-6 to get the lead. Courts 1-3 were close and went into a superset tie-breaker.

"Freshman Brianna Clayton lost 10-7 in the third set tie-breaker to make the match 4-4. Captain Kendra Farrell pulled out the big win with the match tied. We have been on the wrong side of some 5-4 matches this season so it is especially great to see us get this one. This is a big momentum win for us going into the final two weeks of the regular season and into the region tournament."

Mesa returns to ACCAC action Tuesday when it travels to Glendale. It is a busy week as MCC faces Colorado State-Pueblo on Wednesday and then hosts ACCAC-leader Eastern Arizona Thursday.
