Women's tennis falls to Eastern Arizona in ACCAC opener, 5-4

Mesa, AZ – In another tight match, the Mesa women's tennis team dropped its ACCAC opener to a strong Eastern Arizona team Thursday at home, 5-4.

It was the second consecutive match MCC has lost by a single point, having fallen to Ottawa (AZ) Tuesday by the same score. The T-Birds are now 1-3 on the year with an 0-1 conference mark.

"Another close match for us. We are so close in these matches and I know we will get over the hump," said head coach Feroz Rast. "The ladies fought hard tonight. Doubles proved to be the decider as we only managed to win No. 3 doubles. Going into singles we needed to win four out of six but we only got three wins.

"I was very impressed by freshmen Kylie Williams and Zari Williams as they dominated in their matches.  Freshman Alethea LaCroix also played impressively and won both singles and doubles. Eastern is a tough team and I look for us to use this match as a learning opportunity for next time. "

Mesa next sees action on Tuesday when it travels to Paradise Valley for another ACCAC match at 1:30 p.m.
