Tuesday October 15, 2024 - 8:00 a.m. | Dylan DeVlieger
Mesa Soccer welcomes two top programs in the nation to John D. Riggs Stadium on Tuesday as Phoenix College visits for an ACCAC matchup.
Men's Soccer:
The Thunderbirds enter play with a 7-5-1 record (7-5-1 ACCAC) after they picked up a 1-0 victory over South Mountain on Saturday. Tyler Haren scored the deciding goal in the 87th minute to lift Mesa to victory.
The Bears, who sit atop the ACCAC DII standings and enter play as the No. 2 team in the nation, hold a 13-0-1 (12-0 ACCAC) record and have shutout their opponents in three of their last four victories.
This is the second contest between the teams this season, PC took home a 6-1 victory over MCC back on Sept. 11. If the standings hold up as they are currently constructed, this will be the DII Semi-Finals match up which would be the second straight year the Bears and T-Birds have met in the round.
Women's Soccer:
The 5-7 (5-6 ACCAC) Lady T-Birds have been off for a week as the last time we saw them was last Tuesday in a 6-0 loss to No. 8 Pima. Mesa has won three of their last five matches but have been shutout in their last two contests.
The Lady Bears also sit atop the ACCAC DII standings with a 11-1-1 (10-1 ACCAC) ranking No. 8 in the nation. PC has allowed just four goals all season (two in conference play) with six of those shutouts resulting in a Bears win of more than six goals. Phoenix College's only loss came at the hands of No. 6 Scottsdale who pulled off the 1-0 upset on Oct. 5.
The men will kick off at 6pm and the ladies will follow at 8pm.Tickets will be sold at the gate (see pricing below). If you can't make the action, tune into every home game at T-Birds Sports Live and follow our social media accounts to get live updates!
