MCC Women's Soccer split their two conference matches this past week against No. 12 Scottsdale and Paradise Valley.

Against No. 12 Scottsdale the Lady T-Birds played a solid opening half all things considered, surrendering double digit shots but only allowing one goal. A big credit to Mesa keeper Kennedy Birk who made multiple saves keeping the Artichokes out of the net as much as she could in the opening half.

In the second half the T-Birds would lag a bit defensively, allowing three goals in the first twenty minutes of the half including a goal just two minutes after the break. Hailey Hough scored her team leading fifth goal of the season in the 70th minute thanks to a Brylee Allen assist to make the score, 4-1.

Unfortunately Mesa was unable to tack on any more goals and would allow another to SCC with just thirty seconds left in the match and would fall 5-1.

In a day game against Paradise Valley on Saturday the T-Birds bounced back, scoring four unanswered goals while shutting out the Pumas in the victory.

Brylee Allen got Mesa on the board early, scoring her fourth goal of the season after finding the back of the net in the 5th minute courtesy of an Iris Gonzales assist.

From that point until the second half the T-Birds failed to gain an offensive upper hand against PVCC, unable to score until the 63rd minute. Hough would score her second goal of the week (6th of the season), assisted by Angelina Ortega Torres.

Torres would then add on two goals in the final three minutes of the contest by herself (87th & 89th minute) as Rylee Lawson and Hailey Hough were each credited with assists.

The T-Birds will welcome the week ahead as they will host Chandler-Gilbert on Tuesday before a week break, just in time to heal and prepare for the home stretch of their season.
