Women's soccer ties Glendale, 1-1

MESA, AZ- The Mesa women's soccer team played to it's second 1-1 tie of the season Saturday night, as it hosted the Gauchos of Glendale.  The first tie came against Arizona Western back on Aug. 28th.

Neither team scored in the first half, even though Mesa had about five good shots on goal but were not able to convert.  Morgan Eddy(Farmington, N.M., Farmington H.S.) had a penalty kick sail straight through the football goal post but unfortunately three points were not awarded to the T-Birds.

Four minutes into the second half, Jordan Drake, pictured(Grand Junction, CO, Grand Junction H.S.) who just recently came back from a hip injury, put Mesa on the board first.

Not more than four minutes went by at the 37 minute mark did Glendale score its only goal of the night, coming off a ricochet from the top of the goal.

Both teams would battle it out into double overtime with things getting tense with the head referee and the Mesa sideline and what looked to be a handball by the Gauchos inside the Mesa box but no call was made.

Mesa will play a re-scheduled game against Scottsdale, next Tuesday at 8 p.m.
