Women's golf ties for ninth, Vakasioula All-American, at NJCAA nationals
Alyzzah Vakasioula earned first team American honors and the Mesa team finished tied for ninth place at the NJCAA Women's Golf National Championship Thursday.
Vakasioula shot a 78-75-77-78—308 to tie for fifth place over the rugged Plantation Bay G&CC course. Only one player managed to shoot under par for the tournament.
The MCC team carded a 347-354-361-357—1419 total to earn the school's 15th top ten finish since 2001.
With a threat of rain much of the day, the field was cut to the top 15 teams and any individual golfers in the top 24.
The T-Birds' Abby Schmidt wound up tied for 35th place at 84-87-91-89—351. Presley Pickron was tied for 43rd place with a 90-91-85-88—354 and Sarah Cordova finished 64th posting a 95-101-108-102—406.
