Women's golf claims Region I title again
Queen Creek, AZ – Posting two of the three lowest rounds of the year, and grabbing the top three individual spots, the Mesa women's golf team easily won its sixth tournament of the year, the Coyote Lady Classic Saturday and Sunday. The victory gives Mesa the Region I championship for the 13th time in the last 14 years.
Shooting a 302-320—622, MCC easily out-distanced Paradise Valley (352-349—701) and South Mountain (423-377—800) over the Las Colinas G.C. course.
Alyzzah Vakasioula posted her top two scores of the year to win with a 68-71—139, three under par.
Abby Schmidt had her two best scores of the year and placed second at 73-79—152, while Presley Pickron was third, carding a 77-83—160. Rounding out the T-Bird scoring was Sarah Cordova, tying for seventh place with an 84-87—171.
MCC still has one tournament on the schedule but has qualified for the NJCAA Division I National Championship in May. Prior to that is the Paradise Valley Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at the Wildfire G.C. in Scottsdale.
