Women's Golf Take 1st in Mesa Classic, Men 2nd

Mesa, AZ – The Mesa women's golf team began its 2017 Spring schedule by capturing its 70th consecutive ACCAC tournament and the MCC men placed second at the Mesa Invitational held Sunday and Monday at the Dobson Ranch G.C.  

The T-Bird women posted a 694 total over 36 holes. Pima was second at 712 while Chandler-Gilbert shot 744 and Paradise Valley 818.  

Mesa's Haley Kapanicas was one of three medalists with a 76-79—155. Megan Fusak placed fifth, carding an 80-84—164 and Madison Tjaden was eighth with an 87-93—180.  

The MCC men led by two shots after the first day's play, but ultimately finished second behind South Mountain.  

SMCC shot a final round 274 to close with a 555 total eight shots ahead of the T-Birds at 279-284—563. Eastern Arizona was third at 298-287—585.  

Mesa had three of the top five individuals. Jake Guess placed third with a 69-71—140. Dean Harpe and Austin Hardman tied for fourth one shot back. Harpe posted a 68-73—141 and Hardman a 70-71—141.  

The Mesa men will play at the Scottsdale Invitational Feb. 20-21. The women will be at Scottsdale Feb. 13-14.
