No. 1 seed Mesa defeated No. 4 seed Phoenix College in the Women's Basketball Region I DII Semifinals on Thursday night, 69-34.
Defensively the T-Birds were everywhere in the contest against the Bears forcing 19 turnovers and converting those takeaways into 16 points. Mesa held PC to less than 10 points in three of the four quarters and held the Bears to just 13-52 (25%) shooting from the floor.
The Lady T-Birds came out cold from beyond the arc as they went 0-7 in the first quarter but were able to bounce back in the second quarter hitting 4-7 from deep. Going into the halftime locker room Mesa led Phoenix College, 36-14.
In the third quarter both teams had their best period shooting the ball as the Bears shot 6-16 (37.5%) from the field while Mesa went 6-14 (42.9%) from the field.
In the fourth quarter Mesa was in control of the action which let their starters get some well deserved rest as none of their five played in the final ten minutes.
The T-Birds will now host No. 2 Pima in the Region I DII Finals on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Aztecs beat No. 3 Scottsdale in Tucson on Thursday, 66-59.
