The No. 1 seeded Lady T-Birds took down the No. 4 seeded Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes in the Region I DII Semi-Finals on Thursday, 63-82.

MCC came out of the gates a bit slow as CGCC worked a 5-0 lead before the Lady T-Birds got on the scoreboard. From that point Mesa was rolling as they quickly took the lead off a Kamiyah Hurd steal and score and would end the quarter with a 20-10 advantage.

The second quarter was controlled by the T-Birds defense, holding CGCC scoreless until there was 3:44 left in the period. MCC would continue to put it together offensively as they racked up 23 points on 47.6% shooting from the floor. Mackenzie Shivers had a standout second period as she went 3-4 from the field, 2-2 from deep and tallied eight points for MCC.

Kamiyah Hurd was nearly on double-double alert in the first half as she had 10 points and nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes of action.

The third quarter Mesa continued to roll putting up 22 points on 8-18 shooting from the floor while going 3-6 from deep. Kiquedah Taliman had her best quarter of the contest as she went 3-4 from the floor nailing two three pointers to start the half.

In the fourth quarter MCC mainly played their reserves to save their starters for the quick turnaround on Saturday.

Alayna Boss and Aaliyah Garcia played all ten minutes in the final period and were productive as Boss had four points and Garcia scored six to go along with three rebounds.

MCC knew the game plan and executed to come out on top according to head coach Kori Stephenson.

"Defense and rebounds, staying focused on the process and executing the defensive gameplan," said Stephenson.

Mesa was led in scoring by Mackenzie Shivers who had 16 points for her team. Kamiyah Hurd was solid on the glass as she earned a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

MCC will now turn their attention to No. 3 seed Scottsdale as they upset No. 2 seed Pima on Thursday, 49-43. This is the second straight year the Fighting Artichokes have played spoiler as they took down MCC last year in the semi-finals as the three seed.

Mesa has won all three games this year against Scottsdale as their only game at home was a one point thrilling victory for MCC.
