No. 4 Women's Basketball hosts No. 14 Pima for highly anticipated ACCAC showdown

No. 4 MCC Women's Basketball will host No. 14 Pima CC in an ACCAC battle on Saturday afternoon.

This should be a game for the ages as both teams have had a great start to the season and both find themselves ranked top 15 nationally. 

This is a highly anticipated game, the history between these two teams runs deep as they have competed in the Region I DII finals against each other in eight of the last 10 seasons. 

Pima comes into play on Saturday with a 6-1 overall record (3-0 ACCAC). The Aztecs are coming off of three big wins over conference opponents where they won on average by 30 points.

MCC comes into play with a 5-2 overall mark (1-1 ACCAC). The Thunderbirds have won two of their last three with their lone loss coming at the hands of Eastern Arizona College.

The game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. at Theo Heap Gymnasium. admission is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item.

Thunderbird Keys to the Game:

  • Keep Pima off the glass: The Thunderbirds are not the best rebounding team when compared to their ACCAC counterparts as they rank 9th in the category, grabbing 33.3 rebounds per game. Pima is the best rebounding squad in the conference grabbing 50.2 boards per game including 17.5 offensive rebounds.

  • Knock it down from deep: MCC shoots the ball from behind the arc with the highest accuracy in the conference, connecting at a 31.5% clip. Freshman CeCe Cabrero ranks 5th in the conference in terms of 3PT% shooting 42.9% from deep.

  • Force Pima into tough shots: The Aztecs shoot the ball with great accuracy from the floor, connecting on 41.5% of their shots. Pima has four players that shoot at least 46% from the field and two that shoot at least 51%.
