No. 6 Women's Basketball cruises past Community Christian College

No. 6 MCC Women's Basketball took down Community Christian College on Wednesday night, 102-26.

The Lady T-Birds started off hot in the first half, shooting 20/42 from the floor. But it was MCC's defense that opened up the game for them as they forced 22 first half turnovers resulting in 14 steals for Mesa.

The Saints were only able to muster up 15 shots in the opening half hitting just four of them. MCC took a 49-13 lead into the halftime locker room.

The second half was similar to the first as MCC's defense took a stranglehold of the contest. Mesa forced 20 more turnovers and had 13 more steals in the final 20 minutes of the contest. 

In the third period MCC held CCC scoreless until roughly three minutes left in the quarter as they only gave up four points total in the period.

Mesa averaged 25.5 points per quarter as all but one Thunderbird got in on the scoring. MCC also distributed the ball very well as they had 36 total assists.

The Lady T-Birds will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host the No. 3 team in DI, the College of Southern Idaho. 

 

 

 

Breakout Thunderbirds:

  • Jaida Brooks had an impressive game as she went 6/8 from the field (3/5 from three-point land) for 15 points, while distributing the ball well as she had 6 assists and just one turnover.

  • Aaliyah Garcia looked for her teammates all night as she had a team and season high 10 assists and no turnovers. Garcia also had a game high seven steals on the night.

  • CeCe Cabrero was a sharpshooter from long range going 4/10 from deep as she scored a game high 18 points for Mesa.
