No. 16 Women's Basketball hosts No. 22 Utah State Eastern on Thursday night

No. 16 MCC Women's Basketball will hit the hardwood on Thursday night as they host their second DI opponent of the season, No. 22 Utah State Eastern.

Coming off a strong performance in their win 64-54 against No. 24 Cochise College last Friday, the Lady T-Birds look to go 2-0 to start the year. MCC was led in scoring by Ashiian Hunter who had 19 points (5-8 from the field), four steals, four assists, while nailing three shots from behind the arc. Hunter was named the ACCAC DII Player of the week on Tuesday.

Sophomore guard Mackenzie Shivers also had a great game against Cochise as she put up 17 points (7-13 from the field), five rebounds, and five assists. It was not just the starters that contributed for Mesa as Miquedah Taliman came off the bench and provided a spark for MCC with 13 points (3-7 from three-point range) and three steals.

No. 22 Utah State Eastern comes into action on Thursday with a 2-0 record with their latest win coming against No. 14 Casper College, 67-62. 

Through two games USE has four players averaging double figures as Ellie Esplin (14.5), Hadley Humphreys (12), Summer Christensen (10.5), and Japrix Weaver (10) lead the way.

This will be the third meeting between the two schools, MCC has won both contests so far, the most recent coming just last season as MCC got the 65-57 victory.

The contest will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and will take place at Theo Heap Gymnasium, admission is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item.
