Women's Basketball Opens Season with Win Over CCC, 96-52

Mesa, Ariz. - The Thunderbirds women's basketball team won their season opener at home against Community Christian College (CA), 96-52.

In the first quarter, MCC and CCC were in a back-and-forth battle as both teams finished the quarter tied at 14.

The lady T-Birds ramped up their defense in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Saints 60-21 to build their lead up to 74-35.

Mesa coasted their way to victory in the fourth quarter to win by a final score of 96-52.

Jasmine Belt came off the bench to lead MCC in scoring with 17 points and rebounding with 12 boards. Five other T-Birds also scored in double digits; Kada Taliman (14 points), AnnMarie Trojanvoich (13 points), Nia Boston (12 points), Mykah Anderson (11 points), and Mackenzie Shivers (10 points).

Both Boston and Anderson each had an impressive five steals as the lady T-Birds had 16 total steals and forced 29 turnovers while only giving up 10 on their end. MCC also limited CCC to 26.5% shooting and allowed zero second-chance points.

The lady T-Birds will host three games on consecutive days later this week. Utah St. Eastern on the 10th, Bella Vista on the 11th, and Morton College (IL) on the 12th.
