Yuma, AZ - Mesa's women's basketball team opened up its season down in Yuma, AZ for the Arizona Western College Classic this weekend, with their first victory coming against the Tohono O'Odham Jegos, 65-40.
Though the Jegos are in the ACCAC, this was a non-conference game for the T-Birds. Mesa was led by newcomer, Quynne Huggins, who finished with 10 points and 13 total rebounds (5 off., 8 def.).
The T-Birds leading scorer was sophomore Allies Fuller, finishing with 15 points, shooting seven of eight from the field.
Leading the way at the point guard position was Tori Lloyd, who missed all last season with a torn ACL. Lloyd had 10 points with five rebounds and six assists.
Mesa moves to 1-0 on the season. The T-Birds will have one more game down at the AWC Classic against Getys, a team from Mexico. Tip off for that will begin at 1:30 p.m.
