Men and Women Basketball Fall at Cochise

Douglas, AZ- The men's and women's basketball team battled a tough Cochise College team in a must win, playoff type games Wednesday night down in Douglas, AZ.  Unfortunatly for both Mesa teams, the Apaches came out on top in both games.  

The women had a promising start, taking a 21-10 lead on the Apaches in the second quarter.  Mesa was led by Sham Troupe, who scored eight of her 12 points while pulling down seven rebounds in the first half.

The Apaches then went on a 19-7 run within the last five minutes of the second quarter.  Mesa however scored the last four points of the half, leading at half, 32-29.

A 21 point third quarter sunk the T-Birds into a deficit they could not overcome and the women lost, 59-51.

On the men's side, Cochise started knocking down three's right of the gate while using a full court press to frustrate the Mesa offense.  

Mesa committed 20 turnovers that led to 20 Cochise points.  High point scorer for the T-Birds was Obi Megwa and Ed Hardt who both scored 13 points.  

The men and women will be home this Saturday night against Scottsdale, with the men playing first at 5 p.m. and the women at 7 p.m.
