The MCC softball team split their doubleheader against Arizona Western today.

Game 1:

Arizona Western came out hot offensively to start the game as the Lady Matadors put up five runs in the first inning. Three of those runs came off the bat of pitcher Jessie Garcia who hit a three run homerun.

MCC would answer with four runs of their own in their half of the opening frame, Kylie Wilhelms would go yard for a three run shot of her own. Unfortunately those would be the only runs the Lady T-Birds would score in this game.

AWC would add five more runs in  the fourth inning, Garcia would hit another three run homerun in this inning. In the sixthing the Lady Matadors put up six more runs as they would capture a victory in game one, 16-4.

Game 2:

The Lady T-Birds looked to bounce back from their 12 run loss in their second game of their day and they did so in a big way.

In the bottom of the second MCC would put up 11 runs, Kylie Wilhems hit her second home run of the day as she would knock a grand slam over the fence. Leilanie Dalizon would add two more runs in that inning with a two run shot herself.

In the third Rylee Blackburn would hit a two run RBI double to increase the Thunderbird lead.

Pitcher Jerzey Gutierrez would have six strikeouts in the game to bring her season total to 49.

AWC would add two runs in the third, fourth, and fifth inning but in the end it wasn't enough as MCC would take game two,14-6.

The Lady T-Birds will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to South Mountain for a doubleheader.
