DI (#5) Yavapai sweeps softball doubleheader at Mesa

  Division I pre-season fifth ranked Yavapai blanked Mesa in a softball doubleheader, 8-0 and 13-0, with both games being terminated by the 8-run rule after five innings Saturday.

  The Roughriders jumped in front quicky, especially the first game, when they built a 6-0 lead in the first two innings. That was largely the doing of first baseman Kayla Rodgers who hit a two-run home in the first and added a solo shot in the second. She finished with four RBIs.

  In the second contest, YC scored eight times in the second inning to build a 9-0 advantage.

  One bright spot for the T-Birds was the relief pitching of Hannah Matson, In the first game she allowed just one earned run in three innings and then followed that by surrendering only two earned runs in three more innings.
