Mesa Softball Celebrates Its Sophomores, N7 Recognition Saturday Afternoon

Mesa, AZ - A day full of excitment and fun was held at the MCC softball field Saturday afternoon as the Mesa Thunderbirds softball team celebrated its sophomores while also unveiling its new N7 jerseys from Nike.

Before the games, fans were treated with a dance by the Redhouse Family and Mr. Chris Dinehdeal followed by the singing of the national anthem in the Navajo language by MCC alumni, Deriann Yazzie.

After a great opening ceremonies, the fans were then treated to a fantastic game one of softball.  With the wind blowing straight out to left-center, it made for a much smaller field as the wind carried flyballs out all afternoon.

Heading into the bottom half of the seventh and final inning, Mesa was eye-balling a 12-9 deficit.  But a four-run inning solidified the 13-12 come-from-behind win.  Game two again saw both teams exchanging runs but it was the Cougars who capitalized on T-Bird errors to take the 7-3 victory in game two.

After the game, family and friends gathered on the field to celebrate the sophomores for the 2019 season.  The sophomores were Nycole Medina, Ariana Sanchez, Samantha Quezada, Alexis Cirerol and Nikki Begay.  Due to a surgery, fellow sophomore Corina Rascon was not in attendance but was celebrated with the rest of her sophomore class.

Mesa has six games left to play during the regular season.  They will play at home next Tuesday against the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes then will have a week off before facing the Central Arizona Vaquera's the next Tuesday.  They will then finish the regular season down in Tucson against the Pima Aztecs.
