Another Division I split for softball, this time at Eastern Arizona

THATCHER, AZ - The Mesa softball team pulled off another impressive victory over a Division I opponent as part of a split of a doubleheader at Eastern Arizona Saturday.

The T-Birds took a 5-3 win in the nightcap over the Gila Monsters (31-14, 27-7) after falling in the opener, 15-0.

The win keeps MCC (19-23, 14-22) within striking distance of a Division II, Region I playoff spot with 12 games remaining.

The T-Birds scored twice in the top of the seventh to win game two. Bridget Kruck (So., Lynden, Wash/Lynden Christian H.S.) had two doubles and three RBIs, while Korynn Molina (Fr., Tempe, AZ/Marcos de Niza H.S.) added a 2-3 game with a double.

In the opener, Kendra Whelan (So., Flagstaff, AZ/Coconino H.S.) led off with a single which turned out to be MCC's only hit.

Mesa will visit Arizona Western Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. to complete its latest stretch of Division I opponents.
