Softball gains another Division I split, this time with Yavapai

MESA, AZ - The Mesa softball team continued its rise after a slow start to the season, when it went 1-11 against primarily Division I opposition, gaining a split with DI Yavapai Saturday.

The T-Birds took the second game, 5-2, after falling in the opener, 7-2.

MCC has now gone 8-4 in its last 12 games.

The T-Birds scored four in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and claim the victory in the nightcap.

Brittney Ramos (Fr., Yuma, AZ/Kofa H.S.) and Mariah Gonzales (So., Gilbert, AZ/Highland H.S.) each had two hits in the game.

Brylee Coplan-Kay (So., Taylor, AZ/Snowflake H.S.) threw a four-hitter, allowing just two runs, only one earned, and struck out six.

In the opener, the Roughriders struck for five runs in the fifth inning.

The T-Birds remain at home for one more date, hosting Hesston Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
