MCC Men's Cross Country took home second place at the Region I Championships on Saturday.

The Thunderbirds had the top two overall finishers as Jorge Trujillo finished first (25:59.5) while Greyson Akers came in second (26:04.8).

Even with the strong performances from Trujillo and Akers, MCC was not able to capitalize on their feats and take home the crown. As a team MCC earned 35 points while the champion Paradise Valley CC earned 25.

Head coach Daneil Pescador was hoping for more from his team, but is looking forward to getting back to work with his team in preparation for nationals in two weeks.

"Even sitting a couple of kids out, I thought we could have competed much better than we did. We have two weeks to keep sticking to our goals and mindset, and get better prior to the national meet," said Pescador.
