The MCC Men's Cross Country team went the distance on Saturday and captured the Conference Championship.

MCC had a pack mentality as the Thunderbirds claimed the finishing positions 5-8. Jorge Trujillo led the way for MCC finishing 5th (25:20), Javier Garcia came in 6th (25:26), Greyson Akers finished 7th (25:33), and was quickly followed by Wyatt Williams who came in 8th (25:34).

Assistant head coach Spencer Peterson and company were extremely pleased with their team's effort and finish.

"Our men did a really nice job in executing the middle part of the race (2.5-4 miles) and then maintained their pack attack on the competition and sprinted to the finish resulting in victory and Conference Champions," said Peterson.

Just outside the first pack of Thunderbirds was Joshua Lumpkin who came in 12th (25:53), Samuel Green who finished 19th (26:19), Austin Reuff who came in 24th (26:32), and Gabriel Gonzales who finished 27th (26:33).

For Peterson, this performance can act not only as a display of the Thunderbirds abilities, but as a foundation to build off of to propel them to a National Championship.

"These performances today will serve as a springboard to what can be at Nationals in six weeks. We will take it one day at a time and work rigorously to attain our goals," said Peterson, "there is much work ahead, and with this group they have the potential to realize their goals for sure at Nationals!"
