Saturday January 16, 2025 - 9:00 p.m. | Dylan DeVlieger
Sara Jacobson and Myles Larsen shined bright at the Jim Mielke Multis over the weekend as they both took home first in their events.
Jacobson, who is just getting back into the swing of things after a two year absence from the sport, stole the spotlight on Friday as she totaled 3232 points in the Pentathlon taking first place honors and earning her a new PR in the event.
Jacobson was consistent throughout the day as she finished top three in four of the five events. In the High Jump Jacobson took first with a mark of 1.55m while in the 800m Jacobson also took the event with a time of 2:32.18.
In the 60m Hurdles Jacobson set a PR with a time of 9.55. In the Shot Put Jacobson finished second with a score of 9.74m. The Long Jump was highly competitive as though Jacobson earned fifth, the second through fifth place finishes were only separated by .10m.
The efforts of Jacobson are not being undervalued as interim head coach Daniel Pescador is excited for the quick progress that Jacobson has made in just her second time competing after a long break.
"Sara had a phenomenal day! You would never guess this was her first multi in over 2 years! She easily bested her previous score of 2875. It speaks volumes to her character and tenacity as a competitor. She's really bought into the training and is excelling under the guidance of our new coaches, Erwin Jones, Sammy Jo Evans, and Nathan Estes. I'm extremely proud of Sara," said Pescador.
Larsen who took home first in the Heptathlon also earned a new PR in the event as he totaled 4584 points. Just like Jacobson, Larsen was lights out when it came to consistency in each event, placing first or second in six of the seven events.
On Friday Larsen competed in the 60m Dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, & High Jump. In the 60m Dash Larsen took second with a time of 7.40. In the Long Jump Larsen again took second place with a mark of 6.69m. In the Shot Put Larsen took first with a score of 10.36m. In the High Jump Larsen hit 1.73m setting a new PR while taking third in the event.
Going into Saturday with three events to go Larsen found himself in second place needing a solid performance to take the crown.
Larsen did just that, setting another PR for himself this time in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.42 as he took second. In the Pole Vault Larsen captured a much needed first place finish as he hit the 4.10m mark. In the 1000m (the final event) Larsen dug deep after competing hard all weekend and finished in second place with a time of 2:54.34 as he took the Heptathlon crown in Tucson.
