Sophomore track & field athlete Samuel Green set a new school mile time record at the Jim Mielke Memorial Invitational.

Last season the MCC track and field team broke18 school records and they have hit the ground running in hopes to break even more this season.

Green broke Youtel Garcia's mile time record of 4:14.05  as he finished with a balazing time of 4:13.69. Green's brother Ernest nearly broke the record also as he came in with a time of 4:14.10.

When Green finished he was just happy with the time he earned until he found out he made history.

"I was a little surprised, I didn't know what the record was so I was pretty content with it but I found out and I was like that's pretty cool it wasn't too crazy," said Green.

Green had no idea he was running at a record pace, to him it felt like every other race as he and his brother pushed each other till the finish line.

"It felt pretty normal the whole time that I was running and the time didn't really surprise me either, me and my brother were trying to PR and trying to go fast,"  said Green.

Though breaking records and making history is an achievement to be celebrated, Green is looking forward to finishing off the indoor season strong and focusing on the outdoor season as he and his fellow Thunderbirds look to set the bar even higher.
