Men's Tennis falls to Paradise Valley in conference play for second time this season

Mesa Men's Tennis fell to Paradise Valley 6-3 on Tuesday in their second consecutive conference loss to the Pumas this season.

Mesa held the momentum in doubles competition as they won two out of three matches. Carson Abril and Nicolas Romero got the job done as they won 8-3 in No. 2 doubles competition.

In singles play the T-Birds struggled as No. 1 - 5 fell to their competition. Taylor Miyatani was close to pulling off a big win for his team in No. 5 competition but fell in three sets.

The T-Birds now hold a record of 2-3 (2-2 ACCAC). This will be the first season since 2013 that Mesa had had two or more conference losses.

Head coach Feroz Rast was encouraged with the T-Birds poise in doubles competition but as Mesa fell behind early in their singles matches their hopes of victory began to fade.

"Missed opportunities, I liked how we won the doubles point and I really thought we had the right momentum going into singles. We just couldn't get anything going early in the sets and fell behind in almost all of the singles matches early," siad Rast. "I am proud of freshman Taylor Miyanti as he pushed for a 3rd set tiebreaker but just couldn't finish the win. I know with a little bit more work we will get over that hump and have a much better result next time we see them."

MCC will have little time to dwell on the loss as they will have a quick turn around as they travel to take on conference foe Glendale tomorrow afternoon. Mesa has had success against the Gauchos this season as they have won both matches so far this year.
