Men's tennis adds four recruits

Mesa head tennis coach Feroz Rast is excited to announce four signings for the class of 2020.  The Thunderbirds are adding Ben Dugmore, Cameron Khan, Austreberto Carlon, and Parker Chapman for the upcoming 2020-2021 season.

Dugmore comes to Mesa from Kelowna, British Columbia. He was selected for the British Columbia team for the Canadian Nationals in 2019 and also selected for the South Western Districts team in South Africa. "Ben comes with a complete game and has great tennis IQ," says Rast. "He plays with control and transitions effectively from the baseline to the net. Ben will be an instant contributor next fall."

Khan is coming to Mesa locally from Hamilton High School, in Chandler, AZ. He was a part of the successful state run at Hamilton last season. He helped Hamilton finish the season with a 13-1 record along with reaching state championship final. Khan went 25-4 overall on the season and held a singles record of 13-2 and doubles record 12-2. "Cameron knows how to win and he has a great work ethic," notes Rast. "He is a superb athlete that knows how to serve big and can play both an aggressive and a defensive style on the court."

Chapman is from Highland High School in Gilbert, AZ.  He is a four year varsity player at Highland and has been playing No. 1 singles since his sophomore year. He finished his junior year with an overall record of 20-6, going 11-2 in singles and 9-4 in doubles. "Parker comes with a big serve and forehand,"explains Rast. "He is a great character athlete that handles pressure moments very well and knows how to win the big points."

Carlon comes to Mesa from Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee. He has been on the varsity since his freshman year and helped his team get to the semi-finals of team state championships last year where they lost to the eventual state champs. He finished with a perfect record of 18-0 overall. He went 9-0 in singles and 9-0 in doubles. "Beto has a complete game and knows how to find a way to win," says Rast.

Overall, Rast commented on the new additions, "I am so excited to add Cameron, Ben, Beto, and Parker to the T-Bird family. During the recruitment process I was looking for student-athletes that are ready to help us compete for a National Championship. All four of these players are coming from winning programs and know how to play the game the right way. I look for them to have an instant impact and they will complement our returners very well. Although we have a few more recruits to add to this class I know that today was a great day for the T-Birds!"
