The No. 11 MCC Men's Soccer team won their first game of the season on Saturday as they defeated Scottsdale CC 2-1. With the victory the Thunderbirds improve their record to 1-1 (0-0 ACCAC).
Just like their two games last season which were both decided by one goal, the game on Saturday between SCC and MCC was a nail biter. Neither team could gain an upper hand on the other in the first half leading to a 0-0 tie after 45 minutes.
SCC would break to tie in the 50th minute as Mateo Berth found the back of the MCC net. It would take the Thunderbirds nearly 20 minutes to answer back as in the 66th minute Mark Gomez scored the first MCC goal of the season on a penalty kick to tie it up at 1-1.
Less than 10 minutes later Abdiel Beltran would give MCC the lead in the 74th minute.
The Thunderbirds would hold onto that lead as time expired giving them their first victory in the 2023 campaign.
MCC will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Paradise Valley in their final non-conference game of the year, kickoff at 8 P.M.
