No. 9 men's soccer defeats South Mountain 1-0 Tuesday afternoon.

Mesa improved their overall record to 10-3-1 and their conference record to 5-2-1 with the 1-0 shutout win over the Cougars.

In another defensive lockdown performance the Thunderbirds were able to hold their opponent to only one shot on goal for the game, enroute to blanking them on the scoreboard.

On the offensive side Mesa's Mark Gomez was able to score the games lone goal in the 53rd minute to give the team a 1-0 advantage that they would hold onto until the final horn sounded.

If the playoffs were to begin today, Mesa would hold the three seed behind Pima and Phoenix. In their next two games the team plays two of the bottom three teams in the ACCAC standings, a great opportunity for Mesa to improve their seeding and host a playoff game.

In the last two games of the regular season Mesa will host Gateway on Saturday and Chandler-Gilbert next Tuesday.
