No. 20 men's soccer downs Yavapai Tuesday night

20th ranked men's soccer took down Yavapai 2-1 Tuesday night improving their overall record to 7-2-1 and their conference record to 2-1-1.

The majority of the first half was a defensive battle as neither team could get an edge over the other offensively as the first half ended 0-0. Like a lot of Mesa's games so far this season the second half adjustments by Coach Ronan and the team were key for them to be able to push past Yavapai.

The Thunderbirds were down 1-0 late in the second half as the Roughriders were able to score in the 70th minute. The T-Birds had an answer rather quickly as Gabriel Waters scored his second goal of the season off an assist by Marco Martinez in the 71st minute.

Then in the 80th minute Farriel Corrales was able to find the back of the net for his second goal of the season, pushing Mesa ahead. The team would hold off the Roughriders attempts to tie the game, leading to a Thunderbird victory.

 The team will have their hands full Saturday night as they will host No. 1 Pima Saturday night.
