Mesa Men's Golf completed their opening round of the Region I Championships on Monday.

Mesa finished the day in third place after shooting 300 (+16). The T-Birds will have their work cut out for them if they want to make the NJCAA National Championship as they will need to close the gap between them and South Mountain (+1) who sits in first place, and Chandler-Gilbert (+3) who sits in second.

Stratton Deneke had a strong front nine shooting 36 (even par) but would finish the day shooting 73 (+2) for the round. Freshman Ross Kocsis started off the round two under through the first five holes but would bogey hole six and seven and end up even after the front nine before also shooting 73 (+2) on the day.

Luke Stephens shot 76 (+5) on the day while Cameron Kaye shot 78 (+7) in the round.

Play will resume on Tuesday as round two of four is played at Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, AZ.
