Fessler's near-record 64 helps lift men's golf to second place finish at Chandler-Gilbert Inv.

Chandler, AZ – Trey Fessler came within one shot of the Mesa single round scoring record and paced a strong finish by the men's golf team Wednesday at the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational.

Fessler blistered the Long Tree G.C. Black course for a 64, just one short of MCC's all-time record of 63, shot by Ryan Coughlan at the Dobson Ranch G.C. in 2005. Fessler finished in second place individually with a 69-64—133, one shot back of South Mountain's Jonathan Walters.

It helped the T-Birds to a team total of 273 in the second rounds, giving them a 288-273—561 and a second-place finish behind South Mountain. Eastern Arizona finished third, six shots behinds MCC.

Several other T-Birds had excellent rounds Wednesday. Ben Yehle carded a 73-68—141 to tie for ninth place with Dylan Middlemiss who had a 72-69—141.

Mesa will next go into action on Sunday when it hosts its own Mesa Invitational at the Dobson Ranch G.C.
