Former T-Bird Orlando Gonzales wins NCCAA National Championship

Former Mesa Community College men's basketball player Orlando Gonzales is a National Champion as he and his Nelson University Warriors took home the National Christian College Athletic Association title.
Gonzales was a T-Birds from 2022-24 where he was an All-ACCAC DII 2nd Team member his sophomore year. Gonzales ended his time at Mesa with 590 points being just the 10th player to reach the milestone in the past 12 years.
In his first season at Nelson University, Gonzales averaged 6.1 PPG on 33.9% shooting from the floor while hitting 34.5% of his shots from three-point land. In the championship game on March 22, Gonzales played 37 minutes and scored 16 points (second most in a game all season) while grabbing four rebounds.
The Warriors defeated the Columbia International University Rams, 89-74.
