MCC Men's Basketball got back on track in their 83-62 win against Phoenix College on Wednesday night. With the win the Thunderbirds improved their overall record to 4-4 (2-2 ACCAC).

The Thunderbirds connected early and often from deep in the first half, nailing 7-14 shots from beyond the three point line. Anthony Garcia connected on three of his four attempts while Orlando Gonzales hit two of his five.

Defensively MCC did a great job of keeping the Bears from connecting on quality looks as PC shot the ball at a 38.7% clip from the field in the opening half. Mesa would take a 42-31 halftime lead into the locker room.

In the second half the T-Birds would continue to do a good job on defense, holding Phoenix to 35.3% from the field, again only allowing 31 points. MCC continued to shoot the ball well in the second half connecting on 13-24 attempts from the field while going 5-8 from downtown.

Mesa did a great job staying out of foul trouble as they were hit with 10 total fouls, the lowest amount they've had in conference play this season.

The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to take on Yavapai College, tip-off will be at 4:00 p.m.

Breakout Thunderbirds:

  • Lual Lual recorded his third straight double-double (5th on the year) as he scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Lual also did a good job to stay out of foul trouble as he did not commit a single foul in the game, the first time all season.

  • Mason Guiseppi provided a welcomed spark off the bench as he shot 50% from the floor and from deep, scoring 14 points while grabbing four rebounds, dishing out five assists, and recording two steals with a blocked shot.
