The men's basketball team defeated Glendale 86-80 Saturday afternoon to improve their record to 88-14 (4-11).
MCC came out on fire from deep in the first half hitting eight from behind the three point line. Turnovers late in the opening period almost got the T-Birds in trouble as multiple straight empty possessions led the Gauchos cutting what was once a 17 point advantage to just eight.
In the second half GCC was able to make pushes and were able to tie the game late but were unable to complete the comeback as Mesa took the win.
The Thunderbirds were led in scoring by Orlando Gonzales who had 19 off the bench, he went 5-5 from three point land. Timmy Johnson dished out six assist in the win while Rogelio Cooper grabbed seven rebounds.
Eric Blackwell led the Gauchos in scoring, posting 18 in the win while Tramane Lee had 17 in the loss.
Mesa will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Eastern Arizona.
